Proposed Changes in Structure of Sound View Camp~
This discussion will be to get an understanding of the documents linked below. Which outlines the proposal for the creation of the Salish Sea View Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (dba Sound View Camp and Retreat Center). The aim of this organization is to foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders to steward the traditional lands of the Nisqually and Squaxin Island Tribes, and to nurture a new generation of environmental leaders committed to sustainable stewardship. The proposal also emphasizes the importance of a “non-dominant culture” approach to governance, acknowledging the historical harm caused by cultural dominance, and outlining the corporation’s commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and environmental care. The long-term goal is to explore the eventual return of land ownership to the indigenous tribes, preserving the values of the Nisqually Land Trust while ensuring the continued protection and educational mission of the land.
