Presbyterian Communicators Network Conference takes place in
San Jose, CA
with the theme of “Make Your Light Brighter”
By Nathan Young
From October 4-6, communicators from the west coast met in San Jose to worship,
network, collaborate and learn about effective communication in our
denomination. The Rev. Jerry Van Marter
opened with a keynote address challenging participants to make it about sharing
stories. To be a mission connected
church we need to share our stories so whether it be a church in Seattle helping a church in Bay St. Louis or a church
across town in Havana Cuba starting a house church we can
be a light to the world in mission.
Meeting together in small seminars broke the learning down
into different areas from Basic
Powerpoint to How to be a Welcoming
Church. Participants were sharing
ideas and connecting with other in the same situations. Other speakers also spoke on the importance
of telling stories whether it be in a written medium or in a film format.
I came back enriched with new ideas an new connections about
being more effective in communication from a Presbytery stand point. If you
have stories in your church you want to tell, let us know at the Presbytery –
it will allows to share our resources and give hope to those who need it. Thanks be to God!
